Carl at Lincoln

The Lincoln concert nearly exceeded 2000ís Ipswich show for rainfall and yet I have never seen such a crowd of people so determined to ignore it and enjoy the day.

Every act on the bill were great and an overall programme of soul (The American Drifters) stage musical comedy (Tribute to the Blues Brothers) and the coolest swing band I have ever heard was a perfect compliment as a warm up to The Hollies' exceptional performance.

The first (and most important) minutes were fraught with technical problems, yet the strength and persona of the band along with their professional abilities warmed the crowd and had the audience jumping and begging for more! Even though I was soaking wet and cold (lack of umbrella on my part) I found myself moving to the beat as is always the case at their concerts.

The crowd on this occasion seemed determined to ignore the deluge and perhaps they even forgot the weather conditions as they were well and truly responding in a big way in that last hour. There is no doubt as to the staunch favourites on the "List" these days, even though I have seen (and heard) this so many times. There is a freshness and vitality which is now being injected into it all. The overall performance is breaking more and more new ground as the band continues its tour.
